The Southeast Pacific Geoportal contains information generated through the South Pacific Information Network in Support of Integrated Coastal Area Management Project, SPINCAM, and the Information System for Marine Biodiversity and Protected Areas (SIBIMAP-PSE).
These initiatives were funded by the Flemish Government of the Kingdom of Belgium, under the general coordination of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) and at the regional level of the Permanent Commission for the South Pacific (CPPS).
The data and information come from the public institutions of the countries (Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru) that make up the Action Plan for the Protection of the Marine Environment and Coastal Areas of the Southeast Pacific, the Permanent Commission for the South Pacific and other official organizations, as well as researchers from the region who have contributed biological information on turtles and cetaceans.
